Aside from the dollar cost, bottled water brings with it a number of environmental problems including litter, water table depletion, and carbon dioxide emissions (mainly due to the production of packaging, and shipping of the product).
If you're going out, take your own water with you to keep you hydrated -- a reusable bottle (like a Sigg bottle) is durable, unbreakable, and a good way to go.
This is also a good approach to take in countries without drinkable tap water. I used Aquatabs on my last overseas holiday, and had no problems at all. They're cheap, easily obtainable at chemists, and take just half an hour to sterilise clear water. You do not need to buy bottled water to obtain drinking water in countries whose tap water is unsafe for drinking.
Do you still buy bottled water?
